Major Events
Each school year is exciting because of the major events that take place to allow for the culmination of the students’ learnings and application of their skills. These events also cultivate fellowship, foster friendly competition, and build on the school’s mission and vision as a community.
Opening Service
The Opening Service is held on the first day of the official first day of school to kickstart the school year for teachers, students, and parents. The service involves teachers and students in various parts of the program--leading the praise and worship through singing and playing of instruments, special performances, welcoming of the new students, introduction of the school theme for the year, and the giving of the message, usually shared by one of the GCF pastors.
O-Week
O-Week, also known as Orientation Week, is one of the most-awaited events of the year. It consists of fun activities and games with advisory classes and among the different batches. Grade school and high school levels have their own schedule of activities, aiming to build the camaraderie among the batches and also allow opportunity for the new students to adjust better to their new school environment. O-Week activities in the Grade School levels are led by the Grade School teachers, while the activities in the High School levels are led by the Grade 12 students.
Buwan ng Wika
Buwan ng Wika allows the school body to celebrate the Filipino culture, heritage, and language in various ways. The activities vary every year, facilitated by the Filipino cluster, to foster a fun and inclusive atmosphere in appreciating and leanring more about the Filipino culture and language.
English Week
English Week is a time to dive deeper into the love of reading, writing, speaking, and storytelling. This is facilitated by the English cluster. The activities vary every year, depending on the theme and focus. Students also celebrate by embodying their favorite fictional book or film characters, incorporating them in performances or storytelling.
Sambang Umaga
In celebration of the Christmas season, we hold our Sambang Umaga program. It is a worship service that involves both students and teachers in the program to worship God through songs, special performances, and the study of God's Word. This usually also marks the end of the 2nd quarter and the beginning of the Christmas break.
Bible Week
In order to reach out to the community around us, ICS holds Bible Week, which starts out by studying God's Word together, then is applied through various outreaches. Grades 7 and 8 share the Word and get to know the Ortigas community workers, while the Grades 9-12 reach to different communities outside. The Grade school department enjoy learning and studying of God's Word through various classroom and inter-batch activities.
Intrams
The intramurals are held for one week, usually at the beginning of the 4th quarter. From physical sports to mental games and activities, each aim to foster teamwork, friendship, and good sportsmanship among the different year levels.
Dulaan
Before the pandemic, ICS held the dulaan playfest for the high school levels, where each section performed their own rendition of traditional Philippine literature on stage (Ibong Adarna, Florante at Laura, Noli me Tangere, El Filibusterismo, etc.). Over the years, the performances have included more Filipino stories and films.
High School Night
The high school night is a fellowship night for the students and teachers. It is a night for everyone to dress up (according to the appointed theme), eat good food, fellowship together, and celebrate talents and special performances. Today, high school night also includes time to thank and appreciate the Student Council, as well as appoint the new council members for the next school year.
Art Exhibit
The art exhibit is a school-wide event that aims to celebrate the artistic and technical skills of the students from Grades 3 to 10 through the display of their best artworks from the 1st and 2nd quarter.
Moving-Up Day
For non-graduating students, the Moving-Up Day marks the last official school day of the year and the confirmation of the students to advance to the next year level in the following school year. This event also honors the hard work of the students through their academic achievements and special contributions/achievements over the year.
Graduations
The Graduating Commencement Exercises are for the following year levels--Kinder, Grade 6, Grade 10 (completion of junior high school), and Grade 12. The students and their parents come together to celebrate the end of a chapter and the start of a new one in their academic life. It is a time of praising God together for His faithfulness in the lives of each student as they embark on new journeys, challenges, and opportunities to see the Lord's blessings in their lives.
